Dog Days

If I wasn’t in love with The Petropolitan already, I would definitely be so after watching their CitySearch videomercial. I have a dog and I’ve yet to take advantage of this doggie day spa but since Bene’s (my dog) moving away (long story), I should probably treat him to some overdue luxuriating. I’m sure he’d totally relax in their Zen Pen.

SPCA NEEDS HELP!

My beloved SPCA needs food again. I BEG you to help out if you can. Only because I found the love of my life there, Bene and thus I’ll do anything to help these guys out. If you have food to donate, I will personally collect it to take over there. Big Lots is a good place to pick up dog food for reasonable prices. I’ve found first rate brands there so don’t let the discount store stigma blur your vision. Here’s the official word:

We need help with our Pet-O-Meals program. We help organizations with helping their clients (seniors or etc) with dog or cat food.

It is proven that seniors will go without food in order to give food to their pets. We are in need because our food pantry is actually running very low and we possibly will not be able to do a run to help those in need out.

Please help us be able to help those animals in need of food. We accept canned food and dry food (new only). We cannot accept open bags of dog food.

Thank you

if you have questions please call 214-461-1819 or spca@spca.org.

SPCA is at it again

SPCA of Texas to host upcoming Microchip Clinic

WHAT: You and your beloved pets are invited to join the SPCA of Texas on Saturday, August 18, 2007 as we microchip furry family members for the discounted price of $20 at the Dallas, McKinney and Village Fair clinics.

Dogs and cats should be microchipped and tagged to make sure they can be reunited with their human companions should they become lost. Microchipping is a quick, non-surgical process which involves injecting a sterile microchip—about the size of a rice grain-between a pet’s shoulder blades. Each chip has an unalterable ID code that enables animal shelters to locate owners should pets become lost.

WHY: Each year, more than 10 million pets are lost and more than half are not wearing collars or ID tags by the time they reach a shelter. The cost of handling these lost pets is nearly $1 billion a year.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 18, 2007
Appointments necessary.
To schedule an appointment, call 214.742.SPCA (7722).

-SPCA Martin Clinic, 362 S. Industrial Blvd., Dallas
Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed for lunch noon to 1 p.m.
-SPCA Village Fair Clinic, 4830 Village Fair Dr., Dallas
Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed for lunch 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
-SPCA Perry Clinic, 8411 Stacy Road/FM 720 (near Custer Road), McKinney
Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed for lunch noon to 1 p.m.

COST: $20 per pet which includes registration in the local database.

Love your Animals…just don’t LOVE your animals

It’s a movie quote.

Anywhoo, just got this note from the SPCA about a whole new program that can help out lots of people while helping control the pet population. The SPCA totally rocks. Read on:

SPCA of Texas Joins Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC) to Offer Free Spays/Neuters for Pets of Low-Income Families

WHAT: The SPCA of Texas is once again teaming up with the Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC) to offer free spay/neuter surgeries for the pets of low-income families. Beginning July 1, 2007, all dogs and up to four cats per household from 14 specific zip codes are eligible, subject to available funding.

Qualifying zip codes are: 75203, 75211, 75212, 75216, 75217, 75224, 75227, 75228, 75232, 75233, 75236, 75237, 75241, 75253. Appointments are required and recipients will be asked to sign an statement that they make less than $35,000 a year and live in one of the zip codes included in this offer.

The special is funded by the Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC), an alliance of 501(C)3 animal welfare organizations in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties who wish to reduce euthanasia of dogs and cats in local shelters.

The promotion includes rabies vaccination and post operative pain medication at no charge. Any additional veterinarian or vaccination expenses incurred are the responsibility of the pet owner.

WHY: If left intact, a companion animal can produce an unlimited number of offspring in his or her lifetime. Sadly, shelters in the four-county D/FW area euthanize an estimated 200,000 dogs and cats every year. Spaying and neutering lessens the chances of a pet developing cancer, reduces roaming tendencies and decreases the pet’s urge to mark.

WHEN: Begins July 1, 2007 and offer is subject to available funding. Cats must be in carriers and dogs on leashes.

WHERE:
SPCA of Texas Martin Spay/Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic
362 S. Industrial Blvd., Dallas, TX 75207

SPCA of Texas Village Fair Spay/Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic
4830 Village Fair Drive, Dallas, TX 75244

Appointments are required. To make an appointment, call 214.742.SPCA (7722).

Tails! You Win

Dagnabbit. Here’s another dog that needs your help. Dolly Python put out the word on Bunny LaRue, a sweet girl of a dog with a gorgeous coat (or that’s a darn good camera) that is looking for a home in the Dallas area. Per DP, if you are willing and able to take her into your home please contact Gretchen through the Dolly Python Myspace account.

June is National Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month

I did not know that. The SPCA of Texas is celebrating  by offering a $50 adoption special for any cat six months or older at its Dallas and Collin County shelters and all offsite adoption venues. Just make your way over to either one or go here to find out where the offsite spots will be in the near future.

It’s a good deal for adding that fuzzy feline to your family. The $50 fee covers spay/neuter surgery, all age-appropriate shots, rabies shot, a microchip (A quick, non-surgical process which involves injecting a tiny, sterile microchip containing an unalterable ID code between a pet’s shoulder blades, enabling animal shelters to locate owners of lost pets), de-worming, a feline leukemia test for all cats over four months and a temporary carrier. Such the bargain. And you’ll be saving about $30 from the regular fees.

“A special month to focus on adopting a shelter cat is important, even though every month should be an adopt-a-cat month,” says James Bias, President of the SPCA of Texas. “We also want to remind the public how quickly cats can multiply, which is one reason why it’s so important to spay and neuter.”

The SPCA’s shelters are open from noon - 6 p.m. seven days a week. The SPCA’s three low cost spay/neuter clinics perform the surgeries by appointment. Call 214-742-SPCA(7722) for more information or to make an appointment.

SPCA needs help - stat!

This just in from the SPCA of Texas:

We need Help!

Our Pet-O-Meals program which:

Provides free pet food to area organizations to assist their clients who are homebound, elderly, or individuals on disability.

We are in need of new closed dry dog food. Our program helps those in several communities and we are completely out of food.

If you can help please drop bags off at any of our facilities. You can see our locations at ww.spca.org/locations.

Or if you cannot get food to us please donate towards helping us purchase food for those animals in need. www.spca.org/donate

Thank you

Check your grocery store flyers for any pet food on sale but steer clear of that killer dog food. I truly believe SPCA is an angel and I hope at least one person can help out. Of all places, you might can find some good name brand dog food at Big Lots for reasonable prices too.

SPCA would LOVE to see this in their stock. Maybe you can help out.

For your pet adopting consideration

Look at this sweetie face. This little bundle of absolute cuteness is Brady and get this, he’s half beagle half pug. Doesn’t that just sound cute? Maybe you can help him out.

Brady is going to need a new home. In the words of his owner, Gregg, “I have to find him a new home because of travel schedule with my job.” And according to Gregg, Brady is quite an attractive package. He’s house trained, all shots are current, he’s neutered and will turn two years-old November 1. Being a dog owner, I know I’d say the same thing about my Bene but for the skeptics out there, you must believe us when we say, or in this case, when Gregg says “he is very well-behaved and never barks.” Qualities which are never lost on dog owners.

But you can see for yourself as Gregg will schedule some time for you to meet Brady should you be so inclined to add him to your family. Send me your information (grid_blog@yahoo.com) to forward along and maybe, just maybe, you can help make a Brady bunch.
