For your drinking consideration

Head over to the Double-Wide for these yummy sounding drinks. Plus, they have a daily happy hour from 5 - 8pm. Tonight and tomorrow it’s $2 wells and domestics and that’s all night long. Weds you can get your drafts at half price. Sweet. But I’m looking forward to trying the following:

And then there’s Fraud

I just got this message but I will admit, I didn’t look into it. You come off of a late late night with four hours sleep, hangover and a four-hour drive home and you see how far your venture for research goes. But I must say, after reading this, I got a bit worried about my  stay last night at the Quality Inn (blush) in Houston. I sure as heck hope they won’t be pulling this kind of stuff. Fraud and identity theft CREEP me out. Not to mention mildew, which I think I noticed a bit on the ceiling of my bathroom in the hotel (cringe). Read on:

As Quoted by Craig Henderson:

DO NOT stay at the Rodeway Inn Downtown San Antonio

The rooms are mold and mildwew infested.

Also…
The front desk personnel are committing fraud with credit cards. I was charged $1200 on my credit card after Mr Texas for rooms that I was NOT responsible for nor did book. I have contacted my credit card company, my attorney and will contact the San Antonio Better Business Bureau tomorrow along with the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Rodeway Corporate office. If they will do it to me they will do it to ANYONE.

DO NOT stay at the Rodeway Inn Downtown San Antonio

Now, I don’t know who Craig Henderson is and I can’t say if this really happened or if maybe he was embittered by an experience and spreading some not so kind words. I don’t know and right now, my droopy eyes keep me from caring too much. BUT, let this be a reminder to always check your credit cards and TOTALLY check your hotel rooms before sleeping. I died when I realized I hadn’t taken my can of Lysol to spray the room down.

See Ya!

Heading out to Houston tomorrow for this. Never thought about it until I wrote it up (pg 7 but be warned, it’s PDF) and besides, I need a slight day trip to get away from the hectic life of local celebrity-dom. Laughing I kid I kid. However, I must say I wish I could be in two places at once and shoot for this as well. Criminy. Happy Pride y’all.

Band Name of the Week

I may have already said this before but what is up with the onslaught of phrases as names? And idiotic ones at that. I think the cool band name has gone by the wayside. Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, Depeche Mode, heck, even Milli Vanilli (ok, that’s pushing it) all struck a chord somehow and then it just got stupid. But it’s like bands now go through kids books or newspapers and bunch about four words in a phrase together to come up with the least marketable name ever. If I didn’t like their CD so much, I’d probably bag on Panic! At the Disco a lot here. But let’s look at some others:

Eyes, Wings and Many Other Things - “Hey, did you go see Eyes, Wings..and…oh I can’t remember the rest.” Dumb name.

From First to Last - They obviously didnt’ have high aspirations. At least others in this vein are somewhat original albeit stupid.

A Drum and an Open Window - What the hell does that mean?

The one that chapped me today was Can a bus dream?, a local metal outfit that didn’t even capitalize all the words. And with that the decline of good named bands is eminent.

I don’t know how legit this is, but personally I think Dead Kennedys is kind of a cool name. With some exceptions, band names shouldn’t have more than three words. Four is pushing it.

It’s About Time

SMU has announced its plans for a Task Force on Substance Abuse Prevention after the recent deaths of three students this year. The task force will consist of 18 faculty, staff, and student members. It will be responsible for reviewing existing programs, attendance policies, academic scheduling, residence halls, and Greek housing. The task force will have till December 2007 to report back to President R. Gerald Turner.

You Sicko

My second favorite radio stations, Live 105.3, just sent notice that if you head out their way today, they’ll give you a pass to the screening of Michael Moore’s Sicko. You know - his latest documentary on the nation’s health care system. Which I must say I’m quite curious about since I went from phenomenal insurance to zilch after leaving my last job and now it’s kind of a beyotch when I’m sick. Oy. The FREE screening tomorrow night will be at Cinemark 17, Webb Chapel and 635. Just go to the front desk and grab your tix.

Cover Boys

Our own Dallas Diablos are the cover men of the new Sports Out Loud magazine that touts itself as “the best gay sports magazine in the world.” As opposed to the slew of others? I just can’t quite make sense of the website. They mention a preview edition which looks to have a different cover but then there’s the first official edition that the Diablos mention. Umm…what? They might want to work on their Green initiative.

But, the cool thing is that some other Dallas athletes made the issue. According to the rugby team, The Buli Boys softball team grace the pages as well. Photos are best previewed here on the Diablos myspace page.

This new magazine spotlights gay athletes and sporting events. It’s got the niche that, as far as I know, hasn’t been touched on yet. Sending my freelance resume, now. For your copy, head to Woody’s Sports Bar, Skivvies (4001 Cedar Springs Road. 214-559-4955), or Illusions. Annual subscriptions are a cheapo ten bucks for six issues because the magazine is bi. At least, being the issue is June/July, one would think so.

The ambiguously gay premiere cover.

UPDATE: Get Mangoed Tonight

I must have had mango mania with this posting. Susan from FMPR gave me the heads up that this is actually next month on July 11. That is, opposed to that night. hehe…oops…my bad. At least this gives me more time to work it into the calendar. Whew! Silver lining.
