My dream on the verge of becoming true

I’ve always said that my ideal dream job would be a Band Namer. And now’s my chance…well, it’s your chance too but whatever. Sadly, The Valentines are changing monikers:

Hello Everyone,

As you may or may not be aware, we are in the process of renaming the band. This is due to prior use of the The Valentines by the classic R&B group as well as the Australian (AC/DC frontman) rock band by the same name. We’ve gone through hundreds of possibilities at this point and really want to be sure that we capture the vibe of our music and stage performances.

This is why we’re enlisting YOUR help!!!!

The plan:

-For you to respond to this message with as many ideas as you can.
-We’ll shorten the list to 10 names, then send an invitation for you to vote on your favorite name.

That’s IT!!!
YOU NAME THE BAND!!!

I’m only certain mine will prevail but to be fair, of course, I must encourage everyone to participate. Dang, I love this band and I love this name for them. I just wish that cd I got from one of their shows didn’t skip, thus it would have been worth thousands once the name change happens.

Blurry but cool.

Club Refined needs you!

The fairly new venue, Club Refined is looking for some superstar assistance. They’ve been somewhat on the outskirts of the music scene (they are in Red Oak) but have had some fairly decent lineups with local and national bands targeting both general rock and Christian rock audiences. But now they are trying to keep the doors open and are looking for some major help. And I mean major. Read on:

Hey guys and gals,

We are in serious need of some help at Club Refined. As many of you know we are in the process of filing for our non-profit orginization that will enable the finances for the club to change. At this time we have not completed all of the paperwork however we are in need of 8 people that can make a donation of $150.00 to keep the doors open. We are not accustomed to asking for help and maybe God is working on our humility. As you know we have a heart to reach this generation in this area and to minister to the bands that have played and are going to play at the club. We are now getting close to our final hour and we need you. Please, if you can help us with this, contact Me at 972-567-4098, Jr. at 214-404-9219 or Jana at 972-672-5973. Please help us keep this place open.

Thanks,

Brad

If you are not able to help the club with that donation:

1.) Donate what you can
2.) Come out to a show this weekend
3.) If you cant do either of those, just post the bulletine

Thank you!!!

So I know sometimes the Christian rock thing puts off people but music is music and local is local so don’t get all hypocritical now. Help if you can.

Now, I will say whoever put this poster together might need to consider a Photoshop class…but hey, that’s just me.

Tails! You Win

Dagnabbit. Here’s another dog that needs your help. Dolly Python put out the word on Bunny LaRue, a sweet girl of a dog with a gorgeous coat (or that’s a darn good camera) that is looking for a home in the Dallas area. Per DP, if you are willing and able to take her into your home please contact Gretchen through the Dolly Python Myspace account.

Whatcha Doin’ Saturday Night?

Because I would highly recommend this only because from what I understand, it’s a lot like the Lollipop Shoppe but gets grooved out on eclectic soul. I hope I make it out.

He Wants Your Sex

But George Michael doesn’t want an AIDS test. This was reported in England’s The Sun today that Mr. Father Figure, speaking from his Dallas home, doesn’t believe in tests. And yet believes in public sex and multi-drug usage.

Oh, George, how far you’ve fallen. Dare I say, Mr. Goss may need to get past his starry-eyed self and move on to a healthier relationship. Good luck with that test. Both of you.

Kanye hear me now?

I have to thank Gorilla v. Bear for this one. I’m not a big Kanye fan but I’m also not-NOT a Kanye fan either. Does that make sense? But I dig his philanthropy and marvel at his politics and if his new album, Graduation, is going to sound like this, then I may be there opening day August 21 to snag the cd. Kanye goes Daft Punk in this song and video for Stronger that I’ve watched and heard like five times already. But seems like Girl Talk is raising an eyebrow on the track.

Lovin’ Spune-ful

Save your nickels for Friday morning because tickets go on sale for Wall of Sound at 10am. Can you really get any better than this line-up? Only if it was the Texxas Jam, may it rest in peace.

Everybody Loves Mark

Murray Street Coffee is having a little shindig tonight for Art Prostitute’s Mark Searcy. Searcy is like this super talented guy who writes and draws and shoots photographs and owns a gallery and all of his talent makes me seethe with jealousy. He is heading out to Portland and Murray’s offering everyone the chance to say goodbye as well as to give some love for all his local contributions to the scene. Plus, it opens up a bit more room for me to become the local international superstar I’m meant to be.

To entice you a little more to come out, Murray’s offering happy hour prices all night and a DJ spinning the tunes. It all starts tonight at 7:30 going strong till 11. So go.

Hush Hush Good Charlotte

Head up here tonight and see Good Charlotte get their turntable on. I’m fascinated by bands who also double as DJs. The guy from Fall Out Boy just did a set after their concert here and now Charlotte gets in on the action. All these youngsters are so multi-talented. I may be there so say hi.
