For your pet adopting consideration

Look at this sweetie face. This little bundle of absolute cuteness is Brady and get this, he’s half beagle half pug. Doesn’t that just sound cute? Maybe you can help him out.

Brady is going to need a new home. In the words of his owner, Gregg, “I have to find him a new home because of travel schedule with my job.” And according to Gregg, Brady is quite an attractive package. He’s house trained, all shots are current, he’s neutered and will turn two years-old November 1. Being a dog owner, I know I’d say the same thing about my Bene but for the skeptics out there, you must believe us when we say, or in this case, when Gregg says “he is very well-behaved and never barks.” Qualities which are never lost on dog owners.

But you can see for yourself as Gregg will schedule some time for you to meet Brady should you be so inclined to add him to your family. Send me your information (grid_blog@yahoo.com) to forward along and maybe, just maybe, you can help make a Brady bunch.

Get your blues on for the summer

Looks like a new music fest is coming to town. OK, it’s in Coppell but close enough. Can’t say I’m the biggest blues fan but the first Lone Star Blues Festival could be a new way to spend your Fourth of July holiday The fest will be held at the Lone Star Country Club in Coppell starting and 2pm all the way go 2am. Do they stay up that late out there? They are still booking bands so you’ll have to keep tabs on the line-up but they are planning on filling up two stages worth of music. What could get me out there are the sand volleyball courts. Well, those and the Texas style BBQ. Natch.

If it’s not a Maverick’s night for you…

…then turn to the radio for one of my faves. Black Tie Dynasty is going to be on TCU radio on the Good Show tonight. For those of us not in Fort Worth, you can find the station online. The thing is, I don’t remember where so go to the TCU website and try to track it down. Otherwise, tune into 88.7 FM tonight as BTD gives the scoop on their goings-on and maybe even a new album. Just telling you what I heard.

Sorry, BTD. You know I love you but I gots to root for my Mavericks and try to get them past this slump. Have a ‘good show’. hehehe…get it..good show? Good Show? heh…ahem.

Go Mavs.

Boca beats your meat

I saw this on the Dada calendar a couple of weeks ago and thought, oh, what a cool little shindig. I’ll mark it in my datebook. Then Miss Amanda reminded me about it a few days ago. And then Brian’s keeps asking if I’m going. And then Jonanna goes and writes about it. And then, but I already knew this way back when, Millicent Friendly is playing. With all that, the shindig is buzzing to be a big time event and I envision a dumbfounded open mouthed Boca standing in the middle of the patio after everyone is long gone simply frozen, as a piece of foil flutters by in the wind and the stray cat is scavenging on a meat crumb grilled some five hours previously. Should be a blast.

Here are some reasons you should according to the BT…ooops, that’s Boca Tinta for the unitiated. My reasons why you should go - to see me (heh) and to encapsulate yourself in the euphoric rock of Millicent Friendly. Is it possible to have a man-crush on an entire band? Anyway…just go. GO.

From Amanda:

I’m having a BBQ on Sunday, and I’d really like you to come. There are several reasons why you should attend:

A. Almost everyone I know can and do enjoy events that include fire.

B. It is important to take advantage of the nice weather, before God relocates Texas to the face of the sun (he likes to call it ‘Summer’)

C. There are no ants on the patio. There are also no badgers or octopus, to my knowledge…however there are squirrels.

D. Music sounds better when you are enjoying it over the BBQ’d item of your choice & a cold beer

E. Its cheap and you can bring kids. Preferably your own kids, or, at the very least, children you bear a striking resemblance to.

Laugh of the Day - Poodles as Pets (thank you Brian)

I find this article fairly stunning. With the Japanese people leading the way in technology and auto production, I can’t believe Googling some info before buying pet eluded them. Ooops, is that racial profiling? Hope not.

ED NOTE: The bold parts cracked me up.

Japanese fooled in poodle scam

Friday April 27, 2007
Japanese poodle (AAP)

Thousands of Japanese have been swindled in a scam in which they were sold Australian and British sheep and told they were poodles.

Flocks of sheep were imported to Japan and then sold by a company called Poodles as Pets, marketed as fashionable accessories, available at $1,600 each.

That is a snip compared to a real poodle which retails for twice that much in Japan.

The scam was uncovered when Japanese moviestar Maiko Kawamaki went on a talk-show and wondered why her new pet would not bark or eat dog food.

She was crestfallen when told it was a sheep.

Then hundreds of other women got in touch with police to say they feared their new “poodle” was also a sheep.

One couple said they became suspicious when they took their “dog” to have its claws trimmed and were told it had hooves.

Japanese police believe there could be 2,000 people affected by the scam, which operated in Sapporo and capitalised on the fact that sheep are rare in Japan, so many do not know what they look like.

“We launched an investigation after we were made aware that a company were selling sheep as poodles,” Japanese police said, the The Sun reported.

“Sadly we think there is more than one company operating in this way.

“The sheep are believed to have been imported from overseas - Britain, Australia.”

Many of the sheep have now been donated to zoos and farms.

Jimmy Kimmel connects to Dallas

At least for tonight. Just got this from the owner of CD Source, probably the most awesome of used and new CD stores in town. They were there for me as I mourned the loss of Tower Records. Anyway, plan for some late night television tonight. Read on:

Brently Heilbron, who is my first cousin and godson, will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight. Jimmy Kimmel comes on at 11:35 on Channel 8 (ABC). Brently is the son of Chuck, the assistant manager at CD Source. We are also selling Brently’s debut CD at CD Source!

Lance
owner- CD Source

Now that’s big time. Can’t say I’ve ever heard the name Brently before but sounds like a lot more people are going to hear it after tonight.

RE: Miss SMU 2007

And did you know there is a MR. SMU 2007? But am I wrong or do these look more like simple buff bods as opposed to maybe people like these? Trust me, I’m not dissing though. I wish I had half of their discipline. What cracks me up is the stripper type atmosphere the audience gives. Either way, congratulations are in order to these newly crowned students who will likely advance up the bodybuilding ranks into legendary status a la this Texan.

Another movie night that I’m not a part of

I am beleagured by the fact that I have yet to find a venue to host me movie nights. Ok, so I haven’t even tried looking nor do I have a clever name for it, but nonetheless, I’m still beleagured. Play that funky music, White Boy

Head over to the Cavern upstairs and take in the Visual Menagerie as DJ Joseph fills your head with swirling vids against random tunes while you get liquored up by new bartendress, Helen. Apparently she’s Irish and Joseph recommends asking her to show you her Irish Car Bombs. All in all, it’s a musically random way to spend your pre-weekend. I think so anyway. And if you miss him tonight, he’s back on Saturdays.
