Shake it

Big D’s Dogs is offering a free shake with purchase of a dog AND shake. Yeah, a somewhat costly way to get a free shake in the cold weather but for lunchtime with the office gang, it could be a bargain! Here’s their word:

So stop lallygagging and come on in and cure your hunger! Mention this bulletin to receive special, by the way I recommend a dulce de leche and cinnamon shake.

Sounds like some yum.

Moving?

Come to my part of town. In fact, after looking at this “vid” of the Marquis at Gaston, I’m starting to want to move. But I’m too lazy and actually kinda dig my digs.

I’m totally into that pool and lobby though. Dayum!

Getcher Denim Here

OK, you jean freaks. Need lots of denim for cheap? This weekend is the time to do it. So whether it’s for gifts or for yourself, I hope you can make it out to the Warehouse Sale at Market Hall. In fact, I want you to go so bad, I’m giving you a coupon to get in for free. Cause seriously, who really ever wants to pay cover?

Now go shop!

D’yer Peacemaker

I just received this press release about the Dallas Peace Center’s 21st annual Peacemaker Awards Dinner which will be on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Double Tree Hotel. They’ll be honoring Elizabeth Villafranca, Reverend Dawson Tunnell and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) for their diverse and successful efforts in promoting peace, justice and human rights in Texas.

Although I’m hating that I wasn’t asked to emcee. Instead, the Startlegram’s Bob Ray Sanders is doing the job. Remind me to put him on MY LIST.

So why these honorees? Well, Elizabeth Villafranca will receive the 2007 Peacemaker of the Year Award for defending
immigrants’ rights by challenging the “immigrant ordinance” in Farmers Branch. You go, girl. I think she’s pretty awesome, especially her work in Unpleasantville. CAIR - DFW will receive the Peacemaking Organization of the Year Award for promoting understanding of Muslims through education and creating dialogue in the community. Reverend Dawson Tunnell will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to peace and justice in various communities. Tunnell is best known for his work in Denton. Tunnell has worked locally with Bread for the World and Campaign for Global Security.

Congratulations!

Rather get a lump of coal

A friend of mine passed this along. Somehow it’s both humorous and harsh. Seriously, can you imagine being nominated Grinch of the Year by your neighbors? Total suckage. Now I’m on the lookout!

For more than a decade, JwJ coalitions across the country have held local ‘Grinch of the Year’ elections to determine the most deserving greedy Grinch in their hometowns. This year, national Jobs with Justice will sponsor the seventh annual online Grinch of the Year election to determine the national figure who does the most harm to working families.

Please submit your nomination for the national Grinch of the Year by Friday, November 30th. Be sure to include a few sentences on why you think your nominee is deserving. We will be annoucing the nominees and beginning the election soon!
Check out past winners & nominees here.

The riot is now quiet.

I can’t say I was ever a big fan of Quiet Riot but I’m a little bummed by this news that their lead singer, Kevin DuBrow, had died. Mostly because I’ve been getting in touch with my 80s metal roots lately and they were right there in the thick of things. So, while not a fan, I’m going to post up one of their vids as both memoriam and my nostalgic video of the day.

I always loved that mask though. Cool.

Dog Days

If I wasn’t in love with The Petropolitan already, I would definitely be so after watching their CitySearch videomercial. I have a dog and I’ve yet to take advantage of this doggie day spa but since Bene’s (my dog) moving away (long story), I should probably treat him to some overdue luxuriating. I’m sure he’d totally relax in their Zen Pen.

Petro Rules!

Finally!

I found some sort of justification for blogging. Now if only I got a bit political up in this piece could I probably join Texas Progressive Alliance, a blogger coalition I read about in today’s DMN. But then I’d get bored with providing commentary on stuff I’d get bored easily with. Politics? Important, sure. My thing? Not too much. Oh well, for a second I was feeling a part of something. Maybe I’ll start my own coalition.

Do those come with insurance?

Sincere Apologies

Obviously, I haven’t been tending to the blogosphere this week and thus I’m sorry. With the holiday, still adjusting to my new classes, going out and posting on my work blog AND working on a feetch and housesitting in Mesquite…well, I’m a little bit distracted.

Having said that, I figure, it’s Thanksgiving week and so GRiD will just take the rest of the week off.

Have a happy holiday. Eat well and be thankful for all that the world has given you. GRiD is so thankful to all of you who make a pitstop at this little blog and to other blogs who have accepted GRiD as a brother.

All the best,
Rich
