Silent Heroes

I just received note from DCET about their Silent Hero awards for 2007. DCET or Debes Creer En Ti (Believe in Yourself) is a nonprofit that “dedicated to providing cultural programs for the social and economic well-being of Hispanic youth and their families, helping them in the areas of literacy, education, mentoring, and personal and business development.” To be honest, I don’t quite know how I got on their mailing list but hey, blog fodder is always welcome.

So the Silent Heroes are those who have given some awesome community service to the city of Irving in areas of education and health. I can dig that. And what’s not to appreciate about those who give of themselves? If you don’t, well then, yer just nuts.

Without further ado, here are the honorees and the announcement of their upcoming luncheon.

Blockheads

If you didn’t make the annual Oak Lawn Halloween Block Party, well, thanks to Pop McGee, you can see it through his/her eyes below. Some long stretches of video but it’s like yer there. I went but can’t say I got in the groove. Dunno what it was about that night but the energy didn’t seem to be there for me. My one suggestion would be to get rid of the lame parade. Or at least organize that mofo.

Somewhat early

I’m in love with Frank Campagna of Kettle because a) he probably epitomizes a true Dallas coolness, b) because I’ve forever thought his art is amazing c) we finally met face to face this weekend and d) he bought me a drink yesterday. Thanks man!

So, he sent out some info on what’s going on his way and I wanted to share that with you. I’ll probably post up something again about one or a couple of these as they get closer but from Frank’s mouth himself…or hands because I guess he typed it, here’s his latest:

This Saturday, November 3rd we are having a closing party for Collaboration from 7:00 - 10:00PM. There are still a few pieces unsold that are truly amazing, all each created by more than one artist. This exhibit was a one time only concept and this will be your last chance to grab one…

Following this closing the crew and friends plan to head next door to show some love to Lovie as their first cd release party will be happening at Club Dada. (I’m totally there)

Last but not least our Fall installment of our Three of a Kind series will be opening on the following weekend on Saturday November 10th. Featured are Photographer - Erica Felicella, Painter - Lisa Lindholm and Collage works by Jayme Nouralla. All three are top notch, killers in their own class and not to be ignored.

You Lucky Devil

So for those who like beefy strong aggressive dudes and comingle with them while they eat, have the Dallas Diablos got a deal for you. If you’re not out and about dressing up Halloween night (or even if you are), head over to Lucky’s Wednesday night between 6 - 10 p.m. for some dining with the rugby team. See, it’s a cool kind of fundraiser where if the have so many peeps, in this case, a hundred, then 10% of the night’s sales go to the team. And we need to keep them funded so they can bring home the Bingham Cup this time around.
