Coach Parcells replacements?

Dallasblog.com asked for replacement suggestions upon Parcells retirement announcement and these are what came up (all sic of course):

Lovie Smith

January 22, 2007 | Byron George

Amen Byron. Lovie Smith all the way!

January 22, 2007 | Tuscon Kid

Pete Carroll of USC - let’s get some fire here.

January 22, 2007 | Lovejoy

Any chance that Sean Payton could be hired away from the Saints. He knows the ownership, the players et al.

January 22, 2007 | Freddie

Payaton ain’t gonna happen. I say go for Lovie.

January 22, 2007 | RIde em Cowboys

Lovie is from Gladewater, Texas and a three time All American who has been to the Super Bowl. He the man!

January 22, 2007 | Love Lovie

As much as I wouldn’t like bringing in a guy from Pittsburgh, Bill Cowher would be a great fit here. It wouldn’t happen, though. I just hope that Jerry doesn’t give the job to a spare like Chan Gailey or Dave Campo - someone he can control. We need someone with some skins on the wall.

January 22, 2007 | Registered Sam Merten

Tie beteen Domingo Garcia and Carlos Quintanilla

January 22, 2007 | Rudy Jones

Norv Turner, come on down!

January 22, 2007 | Andrew

Phil Bennett. Get him out of SMU.

January 22, 2007 | Pony

Parcells retired from coaching Monday, jan. 22, 2007, leaving the Dallas Cowboys after four seasons and ending a stellar career that featured three Super Bowl appearances and two championships.

Pandemonium @ the Palladium

As I mentioned, this past Saturday was going to be a big night with two huge openings in the local music scene and nightlife.

First off was the Palladium Ballroom where their grand opening kicked off with Black Tie Dynasty and The Vanished. I was quite excited about seeing BTD, again, but especially in the new venue. Unfortunately, dinner at Porta di Roma downtown took a lot longer than expected. So imagine my disappointment when we walked in on Tender and then lead singer Cory Watson says “this is our last song” and goes into Midnight Sun. The crowd was huge but the place itself was monstrous. In a great way. A huge stage, huge floor room, it was great and they sounded great. While waiting for The Vanished, 102.1 The Edge, who hosted the night. blared their station thunderously loud to the point of annoying. The radio was louder than Black Tie was and inherently annoying. We could barely talk to one another and my ears were ringing. It was most obnoxious of them and couldn’t believe it if they didn’t realize it.

The Vanished came on and they were a snore. Nothing I hadn’t heard before with their hard rocking pseudo punk selves. They don’t seem to have an identity that hasn’t been done already and when the singer seems angry but doesn’t really look like he could kick your a$$, well, it just takes away from the whole rebellious stigma. Jonanna compared them to My Chemical Romance. I would have opted for chemicals to reduce my hearing during their set. After two songs though, we just opted to leave.

The Vanished

In fact, we had to be over at ellum:ONSTAGE as mentioned in the previous/next post. We got there WAY late and only caught Lovedrug. The venue I think is pretty magnificent. Sounded good and looked good but the band didn’t win me over. Now, I must admit that we only stayed for one song but that’s what killed it for me. It was one of those prog-rock Led Zeppelin epics that wasn’t really rockin’. We’d had enough and headed over to Club Dada.

On a Saturday night, Dada was dead. Which can’t surprise me considering the band playing that night was Random Circumstance. Yes. Random Circumstance. I even remember posting them on our listings with a big question mark over my head. They are hard to explain without being mean. Let me say this. A wannabe band that mostly does covers that plays the Sherlocks-Cool River-Down Under Pub circuit, a troika of places (among others) that no one really goes to for the music. Cool or not, I felt completely uncool listening to them do Alanis Morrisette. And the slow clap applause was indicative of the audience’s enthusiasm. Well, if there actuallay was an audience. Although I did kinda like that they did a Motels cover.

Random Circumstance

But despite the proliferation of ‘bad music’, the night was a blast.

Working the Streets

ellum:ONSTAGE is now looking for a street team to promote events at the new spot. You know them. You better. For all the work their street team will do, in exchange, members get a bunch of free stuff, most importantly, free tix to shows. Well, that would get me going. If you think you’re up for it, contact charlsie@lifeindeepellum.com with the subject line “street team.”

Monday Night Dining with some tunes

Short notice, cause I just now got this, but it sounds fun and a bit different. I love me some Urbano Paninoteca. I’ve yet to have their sandwiches but their pasta entrees are just short of incredible.

A Blogless Sunday

It couldn’t be helped with the vastness of time spent in front of the TV to watch the amazing sweetness, albeit nail-biting, game of the Mavs against the Heat only to be topped off by the incredible comeback by the Colts that takes ‘em to the Super Bowl. That and a good brunch made for a great day.

So it’s not just Deep Ellum

The Black Dog Tavern closed its doors this past Thursday. Which I’m a little bummed about because that was one of the places I wanted to check out in Cowtown. Always sounded like a cool dive. Here’s the word from Pegaus with maybe the best snarky pic caption ever:

The Black Dog Tavern has been put to sleep

The Black Dog Tavern in Fort Worth shut its doors on Wednesday, January 17. The owner Ted Gaither told an S-T reporter yesterday that “it’s a very emotional time.” Don’t go thinking that BDT will reopen either as its MySpace indicates the place is “Closed. Still closed. So closed. Shut down. Shut out. Done.”

Oh for the love of God Travis, put the gun down, he’s your buddy, he’s your pal, he’s… NO! Not the Black Dog Tavern, Travis! Look what you’ve done!
