SPCA NEEDS HELP!

My beloved SPCA needs food again. I BEG you to help out if you can. Only because I found the love of my life there, Bene and thus I’ll do anything to help these guys out. If you have food to donate, I will personally collect it to take over there. Big Lots is a good place to pick up dog food for reasonable prices. I’ve found first rate brands there so don’t let the discount store stigma blur your vision. Here’s the official word:

We need help with our Pet-O-Meals program. We help organizations with helping their clients (seniors or etc) with dog or cat food.

It is proven that seniors will go without food in order to give food to their pets. We are in need because our food pantry is actually running very low and we possibly will not be able to do a run to help those in need out.

Please help us be able to help those animals in need of food. We accept canned food and dry food (new only). We cannot accept open bags of dog food.

Thank you

if you have questions please call 214-461-1819 or spca@spca.org.

Deep Ellum could be in deep doo-doo…again

Apparently, at last night’s DEEP meeting, everyone was shocked to find out some changes to the Specific Use Permits zoning were made without being told. According to the blog, The Sub-Rosa, DEEP peeps were very aware of the trouble Fat Daddy’s was having trying to reopen Trees but didn’t think too much of it since places already open for business were exempt via grandfather clauses. Well, that may not be the case.

We thought this was going to only affect people trying to open a new club, not the existing ones.

Well, last night at the DEEP (Deep Ellum Enrichment Project - a group of concerned citizens, club owners, gallery owners, ect.) meeting we were all SHOCKED to find out that not only was the grandfather removed from the SUP rezoning law, but that NO ONE TOLD THE CLUB OWNERS.

These businesses don’t even know what they are up against, and if they don’t apply by Dec. 19th, they will be facing a hefty fee and possible closure.

Now as of right now, there is no confirmation but the Rosa is on it and plans to get to the bottom of the confusing goings-on. In order to be up to par, and according to the blog, existing sites have to meet a buttload of requirements to keep on truckin’ but the most curious part was this:

…they even have to identify what type of trees they have on their property. Also, DJ/Dance permits are being thrown right out the door.

Yipes. This isn’t looking too fun and potentially a more serious step in the Deep Ellum Hollah-caust but we’ll have to wait and see how it unfolds.

What do YOU think about the Trinity River Project?

That’s what Oak Cliff’s magazine, the Cliff Dweller is asking. I’m sure they are most curious about people’s thoughts on the upcoming election regarding the project and toll road in November. Especially since it’s right in their backyard. So click on the survey and put in your two cents.

Here’s the official word:

Hello friends of CliffDweller!

We’re working on an article for the October issue of CliffDweller looking at the upcoming vote on the Trinity River toll road, and we need your help!

Take a few minutes (it’s quick, we promise) and answer the 7 questions on our survey. Your answers will be anonymous and you’ll be helping to shape the issue as we prepare the article! Feel free to pass this link on to friends and family who live/work in the Cliff and may have an opinion.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In other cancellation news…

…fortunately not local but unfortunate for those going to Austin City Limits. The White Stripes canceled their gigs because Meg White is a drama queen with acute anxiety. I got one word for that. Zoloft. Look into it. They had two shows planned but now ticket owners are gonna have to get a refund. Just thank the heavens their European tour is still in tact.

Whew. Thanks to Pitchfork for the heads up.

By the way, Kaiser Chiefs…not so bad. Cute pop rock stuff that we’ve all heard before but not tragically bad.

“Where my Zoloft at??”

Some bitter news

from the House of Blues -

The Kaiser Chiefs concert, originally scheduled for Tuesday, September 18 at HOB, has been canceled.

The band has canceled a handful of shows on their fall tour at “the last minute to concentrate on recording new material.” (translation - five tickets were sold)

Speaking of the cancellation of the tour, drummer Nick Hodgson explained:

“We’d like to apologize to fans in America and Canada, especially those who have already bought tickets, but something had to give. We’ve been extremely busy all year and had no time to focus on the future, we plan to have new material out as soon as possible and we’ve wanted to record all summer.

“This needs to happen before our European & UK shows at the end of the year so we can play a few of our new songs live, we’re keen to explore new ground, beyond the sound of our first two records, so we’re headed back into the studio to begin that process.”

Canceled shows:

How disappointing but I only have one question - Who are the Kaiser Chiefs?

Wall of Sound band shedule

Ugh. I’ve been waiting for this forever. Of course, I haven’t gotten my tickets yet so I guess I can’t complain. The lineup is fairly impressive but dangit if the people I want to see are scattered throughout the whole day. Maybe its incentive to hang out in Cowtown for a while and make a run to Pizzeria Uno in downtown.

So if you’re anal like me, you’ll want to write your schedule out just to be on top of things and have decent beer runs. The bold ones are the bands I’m shooting for. Maybe I’ll see you there.
