Mavericks lose a little bit of their Buck

I wasn’t much of a fan of Greg Buckner as I always felt he was a weak link in the line-up. So now that he’s been traded to Minnesota for Trenton Hassell, maybe our game will be stepped up even more. Guess there’s no reason to go to this now. Imagine how awkward that’s going to be.

Good luck, Buck. Welcome aboard Hass.

And in other (sorta) Mavericks’ news:

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is not only dancing it up on tv, he’s getting ready to rumble. Cuban’s, HDNet, is looking into the mixed martial arts action and planning a new sports venture called HDNet Fights that will host and air fights for his hi-def channel.

It’s a Mavs Day. Vote for Cuban!

State Faiir Photo of the Day

OK, so it’ s a crappy photo but I hope this kind of captures the reason of why everyone needs to ride the Skyway at night. Purely magical.

State Fair Opening Day

Guys, I’m so tired from the Fair that I can’t write it up the right way. So I’ll do it tomorrow but in bulleted form, here’s how it played out:

  • Fried Cookie Dough - tastes just like warm cookie dough. Heat it in yer oven and eat. Quite delicious but save the 12 coupons and don’t pollute the earth with the unnecessary car carrying case.
  • Texas Skyway - Ride it at night and see the truest beauty of the Fair. Pics coming soon.
  • Midway Lights - Fun musically activated lights are embarrassingly hypnotic.
  • Human Cannonball - Hilarious and cool at the same time. He has wacky eyes though. Shot out too many times?

Don’t ferget the DMN’s State Fair blog. Good stuff but this? Are they serious? OK, that’s it fer now. Go! Better recap manana. Possibly.

Yeah, but…

Ticket sales are about to get under way for the Mavericks and I’m hoping to snag a few before tickets.com or whatever snags them all up and doubles the prices. Thanks Mavs for preventing that.

Now, you gotta love Mark Cuban. Really. Why? Because of this:

$2 Tickets: In an effort to keep ticket prices as low as possible, the Mavs will also have 500 $2 tickets available for every home game this season. “We want to give all of our fans the opportunity to enjoy a Mavs game,” said Mavs owner Mark Cuban. “For families on a budget, coming to a game and purchasing regularly-priced tickets may not be an option, and I wanted to make sure that we had an extremely affordable ticket available to everyone.”

Great idea, right? OK, so what’s to stop me from getting $2 tickets although I am on a budget. In fact, I could justifiably buy those tickets. But what’s to stop, let’s say Jerry Jones, from buying a $2 tik? Or even the other ticket retailers from buying those cheap seats and jacking the prices up? Mr. Cuban, I love ya, but is there a more well-thought out process behind this, like bringing in our w-4 forms or something?

As great as the intention behind it is, it seems hugely flawed and all the Mavs have to say is, ‘Hey, we did our part.’

Disheartening. Unless I’m wrong of course.

Go Mavs.

I’m going to prison

Which would be ideal if the love of my life was taking me (some of you will know what that means) but tonight I’m going to get incarcerated at Zubar’s 11th Anniversary Party, Lock Down where prison attire is required. Unfortunately, I can’t find mine however I debated the Cops look with white socks, slippers, white boxers and a wife beater but I realized I wouldn’t have pockets for my wallet, camera and audio recorder. Ah well, so much for innovation. Join me and buy me a drink, d@mmit.

What I said about the Dumbest Contest Ever?

That award may now go to D Magazine. In an attempt to once again make everyone below a certain tax-bracket feel bad about themselves, their spin-off mag D Beauty launched D Beauty’s 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas. 20 women you probably don’t know, are up for the coveted title. And to insult the general public’s intelligence they pick women who have either had some hardship or do the whole public service bit or are single moms. But, only the pretty ones of course.

I guess she won’t win.

Mayor Said Knock You Out

Or rather, the mayor is going to knock you out. Fortunately not our diplomatic and sophisticated mayor. Eustace mayor, Laura Ward, obviously not on a re-election campaign, got all Million Dollar Baby last weekend in a Gun Barrel City bar on this chick…in front of police officers! Now that’s ballsy.

Police: Eustace Mayor Punches Woman, 5 Cops Witness Attack

Vote for me or you’ll get knocked the f*&% out

Mav Buckner clubs it up @ Opus

What? Does a new club open every week now? I can’t keep up.

Can’t say that Greg Buckner is one of my favorite Mavs but I’m quite curious about his bit this Saturday night. And with special guests a la NFL peeps and other NBA-ers. Wonder who all is gonna be there.
