Love your Animals…just don’t LOVE your animals

It’s a movie quote.

Anywhoo, just got this note from the SPCA about a whole new program that can help out lots of people while helping control the pet population. The SPCA totally rocks. Read on:

SPCA of Texas Joins Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC) to Offer Free Spays/Neuters for Pets of Low-Income Families

WHAT: The SPCA of Texas is once again teaming up with the Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC) to offer free spay/neuter surgeries for the pets of low-income families. Beginning July 1, 2007, all dogs and up to four cats per household from 14 specific zip codes are eligible, subject to available funding.

Qualifying zip codes are: 75203, 75211, 75212, 75216, 75217, 75224, 75227, 75228, 75232, 75233, 75236, 75237, 75241, 75253. Appointments are required and recipients will be asked to sign an statement that they make less than $35,000 a year and live in one of the zip codes included in this offer.

The special is funded by the Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC), an alliance of 501(C)3 animal welfare organizations in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties who wish to reduce euthanasia of dogs and cats in local shelters.

The promotion includes rabies vaccination and post operative pain medication at no charge. Any additional veterinarian or vaccination expenses incurred are the responsibility of the pet owner.

WHY: If left intact, a companion animal can produce an unlimited number of offspring in his or her lifetime. Sadly, shelters in the four-county D/FW area euthanize an estimated 200,000 dogs and cats every year. Spaying and neutering lessens the chances of a pet developing cancer, reduces roaming tendencies and decreases the pet’s urge to mark.

WHEN: Begins July 1, 2007 and offer is subject to available funding. Cats must be in carriers and dogs on leashes.

WHERE:
SPCA of Texas Martin Spay/Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic
362 S. Industrial Blvd., Dallas, TX 75207

SPCA of Texas Village Fair Spay/Neuter and Animal Wellness Clinic
4830 Village Fair Drive, Dallas, TX 75244

Appointments are required. To make an appointment, call 214.742.SPCA (7722).

Art at the Movies

Thursday will be the opening reception for Jayme Nourallah’s art show at the Magnolia Gallery. I didn’t know the movie theater had a gallery as much as what I would consider wall space but hey, I don’t get paid for the bright ideas. Make it out to the West Village to check it out along with some free cupcakes and juice boxes starting at 7pm. I may have to run to the bar to add a slight enhancement to my Juicy Juice though.

O Happy Day

I hate being a sucker for informercials but for whatever reason, I could never tear myself away from the Magic Bullet. I’m not sure if it’s the goofy cast of characters or how it makes me feel like I can do all these things but my remote comes to a screeching halt when flipping channels late at night. And now I bought one, albeit from Target where it’s on sale this week for $45. Fo’ sho’!

I perused my new 10 Second recipe book with excitement at all the things I will be making and even Googled it to see what reviews and other recipes there are. Great reviews and some delicious sounding recipes were all out there and even parodies on YouTube.

And now it’s time to begin planning a Magic Bullet Party where everything on the menu has been made by my new favorite appliance. Y’all better come!

I’m just curious if any of you have one and your experiences with it. Or better yet, I need more recipes.

Sigh.

I decided to do a Google search on this promotions company only to be first directed to an adult DVD site. And then some more related items. Although I applaud the name CockAsian, I must admit I wasn’t too inclined to continue my research.

And if you’re Mondays are a bummer, then Nine7Two might be your place to get your sin on. Me? I’ll pass. Their ballsy-ness kinda creeps me out. And in Addison of all places.

Seriously?

I TOTALLY want to see this show but seriously, Theater Three wants me to fork over $25 for it? In the smaller theater? For that kind of money, I really expect free valet and some complimentary cocktails. Unless this is the new budding Broadway, theater tix in Dallas should never be more than $19. Never.

I will admit I am a cheapie but theater prices don’t make sense to me. And I used to be in the scene way back when. You can talk to me all day about supporting the arts and paying for actors from out of town and the declining monies in the nonprofit scene but forget that, I’m not paying that much money to see a one-woman show or even a full on cast. Even if it is the best play in town or of high quality.

Hey theaters - quit pandering to a certain crowd that you want in there excluding others that might want to enjoy live theater as well. Or at the very least, make it worth my money to come down there and spend the same amount that I would on a tank of gas. I barely see pay what you can nights anymore.

Shame on you all for this kind of behavior. You’re not promoting the arts. You’re killing them. B!tches.
