Victorious Flix

VICTORY PARK THEATER

Catch your favorite blockbuster on the big screens in the plaza in Victory Park every Tuesday night this summer. Make sure to reserve the best seats for viewing on the N9NE Steakhouse and Nove Italiano patios to sip on chilled summertime cocktails, such as the Berry Mojo (mojito with fresh raspberries) and Peach Caipirinha. For patio reservations, call N9NE Steakhouse at 214.720.9901 or Nove Italiano at 214.720.9903.

Where & When

Victory Park Plaza
3090 Olive Street
Every Tuesday
starts at 8 PM

  • July 10 - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • July 17 - E.T
  • July 24 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • July 31 - Wizard of Oz

OK, I snatched this from FMPR’s email. I’m lazy this morn. But sounds like total fun, right? Although, I swear I need to offer my consulting services on what movies to pick. Between the Inwood, this and the Belmont Hotel, they are all the same. Although I must applaud Belmont’s B-Reel’s upcoming selections. Delicious. But I’m definitely checking out the Victory Park lineup. At first I wasn’t a fan of the slick digs but they are growing on me. And this could win me over.

Artists Open Call

The Soda Gallery in the Cliff is making the call so y’all better listen:

The Soda Gallery is looking for some new talent to book exhibitions for the rest of 2007. Are you a fresh and exciting artist that has ‘the goods’? If so, we wanna see your work. Either reply to this post with two to three images, or give us your website address, and we’ll take a looksie.

We are looking for artists, local to the Dallas, Texas area, as well as national artists, to display their work in a fun and exciting venue. Since The Soda Gallery features a very ‘pop’ atmosphere, pop artists are encouraged to submit images or portfolios (no original artwork, please.)

The Soda Gallery is located in the historic Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff (South Dallas), and features over 200 varieties of bottled soda, from regional favorites, international hits and obscure flavors. Check out their website at www.thesodagallery.com, or their myspace page at www.myspace.com/thesodagallery.

For more information, please contact Jonathon (that’s me) on myspace, or at jonathonkimbrell@hotmail.com

Tandi Iman Dupree works it

I may have to give this the Best Drag Entrance Ever award. Being that it’s pretty amazing and yet still cringe-inducing makes it the lone frontrunner. If I’ve read everything correctly, this is the talent performance for Miss Black America in Atlanta back in 2001. Other than that, I don’t really care because the number itself high-kicks some a$$.

Enjoy. Thanks Scanner

Totally Free Download

Dang. Local band The Hourly Radio is getting big for their britches and good for them. They’ve been touring all over the US and Europe and now American Eagle Outfitters has gotten a hold of them. Not really sure what the campaign is but American Eagle’s website is offering a free download of their song Deaf Ears from their debut full-length album History Will Never Hold Me. I already have that so I won’t need the download but I do love it and hope you make a stop at the site to snag the song and give them a listen. You won’t regret it. Took me a while to get past the almost too-high vocals but now it’s totally digable.

And if you make it out to American Eagle, they’ll be playing the Deaf Ears video for ya. At least that’s what the band says. But if you can’t, I’ll put it right down below for ya.

Although, I must say, if you’re needing clothes, head over to The Gap and fast. Jeans for $15 and lots more for cheap. Go now, yo!

One of the more creepier polls…

…I’ve received on the Interweb. I don’t get too involved with these because so many go around and they sometimes burden the bulletins, but every so often one will stick out. The title to this one sent by local DJ Captain Groovy is - Best Song to Kill Yourself With - and asks the following:

when you’re found dead in a bathtub, what’s going to be playing on repeat in the background?

And some of the responses were:

1. julia- “love hurts”, gram parsons

2. Haunted George “Walkin’ on Sunshine” Katrina & The Wavez

3. Bryan Schmitz “Splish splash” by Bobby Darrin

4. Hank - “Sailing”, Christopher Cross

5. Mr. Red Cat - “Perfect Day” Lou Reed

6. MUDI - I was going to be funny but, “Pink and Velvet” Berlin

7. Captain Groovy- “Why Kill Time When You Can Kill Yourself” by Cabaret Voltaire

I do think that if I were going to kill myself to a song, it had be better darn depressing enough for me to do it. Or be that old Hampsterdance song over and over. And if I was going to kill myself with a song, I’d probably pick vinyl over cd. Sharp edges, bigger circumference…dunno…seems ample enough to do the trick.

But as of now, I have no inclination. Now, songs to kill other people with…I can make you a mixtape on that.

What?
