Get Mangoed Tonight
I’ve always loved mangos but for some reason of late, they’ve found their way onto my weekly grocery list. Maybe because they’ve been fairly cheap as of late. 2 for a dollah make me hollah. Although yesterday’s trip to Kroger’s had them now at $1.99 a pound. Yikes. Back to apples it would seem.
Now the idea of Mango Margaritas pricks up my ears.
Tonight is the Mango Margarita Social at the Clay Pit which will be part of a night of Indian Fashion, Food and Music to benefit North Texas Food Bank. Drinks AND for charity? I may have to reschedule my night. It’s a free event but they are hoping people can RSVP by calling 972-233-0111.
And if you need some insight on the mango, FMPR gives us some history:
Why celebrate the mango? As Dallas’ leading Contemporary Indian restaurant,
Clay Pit appreciates the history, dignity, and juicy goodness of the mango.
Mangos originated in East India, Burma and Andaman Islands. Many Southeast
Asian kings and nobles had their own mango groves, providing nobility and
social standing; hence the custom of sending gifts of the choicest mangos.
The mango tree plays a sacred role in India where it is a symbol of love,
and some believe that the mango tree can grant wishes. In the Hindu
culture, hanging fresh mango leaves outside the front door during certain
holidays is considered a blessing to the house, and mango leaves are used at
weddings to ensure the couple bears plenty of children.
How’s that for some quick history. Maybe I’ll see ya there ’cause I might need a ride home!
