Sorta Good Time @ Poor David’s

Friday night, I headed over to Poor David’s Pub in the South Side to check out Sorta. This band has been an emotional rollercoaster for me. I saw them live before I heard their stuff - sounded good. Bought their cd and couldn’t help but fall asleep. Fell in love with Lazybones so I gave them another shot - I liked it a bit better but still. Jonanna helped me realize what I was thinking so I felt relieved. Then, last month, outta nowhere I fell in love with the CD. Now I wanted to see them again which I finally did this weekend. They put on a decent show but I found myself rushing toward my car to listen to their cd instead. Sorta band members, I think we need couples therapy.

The most exciting part of the show was the big haired middle aged bone skinny drunk woman sitting one table over. She knew none of the words to their songs but sang everyone, screamed and clapped and banged her head. I’m sure her date was happy as he kept supplying her with beer after beer. Because he knew what was in store for him later. Too bad it was too dark. I SO would have wanted a picture to introduce her to you.

Thank you Mavericks

I just don’t have the words for the beautiful playing that took place this evening. Well done.

Meridian wants your art now

The Meridian Room is looking for artists to adorn their walls with original art. Oh, and you can sell it too. Their next show isn’t for three more weeks but they got nothing in the meantime. Nothing more depressing than drowning your sorrows in Stella with nothing on the walls. But it’s a sweet deal for the artist.Their policy on works sold is “you keep 100% of what you sell, you hang it yourself (with your own tools) this Sunday night (as in today)…or maybe Monday afternoon if your really, really cool…”

They say this too:

Email Simon @ mcdonald.simon@gmail.com. I’m not an expert, but first decent response (i.e. not tracings of Bob Ross masterpieces) gets first dibs. All others get forwarded to Andrea (who books our art openings) for future consideration. We do cool stuff for openings here, they can be great if you invite all your friends to eat the free food we put out…

The walls are bare and it’s depressing in here… change it today!!!

It’s your decision.
