Friday Night @ the Double Wide

Why I like The Drams?

Sam introduced them to me really but it was their performance at our music awards last year that blew me away. They jammed out Unhinged and I somehow got hooked on their keyboardist Chad Stockslager. The band rocked that song but his intensity that night was mind-blowing. Probably nothing of note but he belted out his backing vocals and smashed those keys with fervor beyond any I had seen. I thought he was mesmerizing even though the star of the show is lead singer Brent Best.

Seen ‘em a few times since at Idle Rich and Barley and Sons but he’s yet to reach that same intensity. Maybe tonight? Crossin’ my fingers. No matter, their gritty rock and earnest lyrics still engage me as I sway to the beat wishing I knew how to play guitar and sing. One thing though, Mr. Best, please open your eyes while performing. Keeps us at a distance.

Anyways, go see ‘em. Great stuff.

Band Name of the Week

I’m declaring a moratorium on bands that use an ellipsis in their name. Just stop it.

Top Secret…shhh

The Academy Is…

Tame…Tame and Quiet

Ok, that’s all I have for now.

Gordon Keith a Dud, Not a Dude

live blog

Today’s Quick cover story was this and I almost forgot about it. Missed the first ten minutes of thedebut of the Gordon Keith Show on Channel 52 but he just began interviewing local band Radiant. Not the nicest interviewer as he tried to play it hip by making fun of their appearance and then simply switched and talked about them on Kimmel. He wants to be funny but he’s tanking.

Went to their video and then an awkward cut in the middle back to the interview.

So the show is merely out of the same spot that Channel 8 news is with Victory Park in the back.

Contest to be on his show by submitting yourself on video doing something ‘crazy’. Gee original.

And he signs off with mention that Chief Kunkle will be his guest next Thursday and describes his show as “mind numbing frivolity.”

I think it’s really just mind-numbing.

He doesn’t have the personality for television. He’s going for the Kimmel/Conan audience but there’s nothing about this show that is inviting. And he’s simply boring. I don’t like his print stuff but he comes across better there. Please don’t quit yer day job, Keith.

I give it two months.
