You’re such a CADD…and that’s not a bad thing.

This isn’t really news. I’m just late finding out about it. Dangit. But there’s a new coalition of art galleries calling themselves the Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas or CADD intent on getting the Dallas art community a little more noticed around here:

Here is the official statement from CADD as to what they are all about:

CADD includes the city’s foremoest contemporary visual art galleries. Members are committed to the highest standards of contemporary art exhibition, while recognizing the importance of integrity and responsibility in working with artists, collectors, museum professionals and educators. In the coming months, in support of the Dallas visual art community.

Membership to CADD is by annual invitaion. To qualify, a gallery must demonstrate professionalism, possess good standing among colleagues, and contribute to the cultural life of Dallas.

Member galleries include the following:

and/or gallery
Art Prostitute Gallery
Conduit Gallery
Craighead-Green Gallery
Dunn and Brown Contemporary
Goss Gallery
Holly Johnson Gallery
Pan American Projects
Gerald Peters Gallery
Road Agent
Valley House Gallery
Marty Walker Gallery
Barry Whistler Gallery

And they’ll be having their first art fair May 19-20, 2007 from 10:30am to 6:30pm at 333 First Avenue.

Thanks to Metroblogging Dallas for the tip.

My Movie Valentine’s

OK, so since there won’t be a Valentine on Wednesday, the second best thing is to watch one of these movies. I think these are ideal cinematic sweets to spend the holiday with yourself or your other half.

Aww man, it doesn’t get much better than this. I think this is one of the best romantic movies ever made.

The first time I saw this, I merely liked it. I revisited it recently and fell in love with its charm and sweetness. It’s pure magic.

In the bigger scheme of things, probably at the mediocre level but this Cyrano twist has a good heart that wins me over in the end. Never took itself too seriously which makes it remarkable.

More on the hilarious side, this is seen as the gay Big Fat Greek Wedding. Not as polished but has good intentions with some fairly clever writing, good casting and completely engaging. Not threatening for those scared to see a ‘gay’ movie (booga wooga). Stereotypes are over the top but funny and it’s not trying to be anything more.

I saw this by chance and was swept over by it. Totally indie but smart and the whole time you’re just hoping. For what??? Gotta watch.

There are lots of classics I could have put here but this one always touches me. I know most people shy away from musicals but I hope you’ll give this a try. Completely delightful and graceful.

Valentine’s isn’t such a serious holiday so it’s always ok to throw these less than high-quality flicks around this time. But I think I may have lost my man-card after these suggestions. Surprised

First the Grammys, now the world

I used to pretend to like The Police and I don’t remember why. Synchronicity was OK with all those hits but they were just always a boring band to me. Personally, I just think Sting is one of the most overrated artists ever. Hey bud, try a different sound instead of putting me to sleep all the time. Thus, I was fairly indifferent about their upcoming (ok, now past) reunion at last night’s Grammys.

And now, they are going to tour. Is it just me or is there any real reason for this? Says here that they’ll be swinging our way June 26 at American Airlines Center.

Me? I’m still waiting for the Missing Persons reunion.
