Another Death-in-Deep-Ellum Weigh In
Brian over at the Darkside Lounge decided to give his thoughts on the quickly mundane argument about Deep Ellum. I haven’t been there in quite a while and they have a pretty good venue. Small but good staging, pretty great sound, genuine Ellum location and tons of acts throughout the week. But ever since Curtis left, I haven’t been too excited about their lineups. Lately it just seems like a bunch of screamo-punk-rage stuff. I have nothing against it though as it does contribute to the music scene. But mix it up a little, Brian.

Maybe to some, but us at the Darkside Lounge and Elm Street Bar are still alive and kicking and we aren’t going anywere.
At the Darkside we are still bringing the best national and local punk rock, rockabilly, psychobilly, metal, indie, and just straight up rock and roll. If you want to bitch about deep ellum dying, why not do something about it and come out to a show and support the neighborhood if not at Darkside, then at Curtain Club, Club Dada, The Galaxy, or Adairs. There is plenty of shit going on in Ellum every weekend and all i keep hearing is people bitching about no scene, well come to the neighborhood and start making the scene alive again, thats all it takes.
Support Live Music in Deep Ellum or don’t bitch when there is nothing but cover bands and DJ’s left

I think a big reason I haven’t gone back is they keep booking The Kansas City Faggots and just recently The Queers. Probably tongue-in-cheek but it’s quiet homophobia. And that pretty much steers me away. But their next headliner’s name always cracks me up. Get it? Crack? hehe.
