Impact and Integrity?

That’s so me. Right?

I’ll humbly accept your nomination for this from the Dallas Morning News. And let me give thanks now to all of the little people. They make it easier to step on.

I KID! I KID!

People that come to my mind would be Kinky, Dixie Chicks, Mike Piazza, Jim Schutze….and me.  :-D

The Fine Line - onto new horizons

I heard it first here but just read the official word from Cindy Chaffin about the future of The Fine Line. It saddens me to see it change this way but I know Cindy, as devoted as she is, will still provide the ‘need to know’ as only she can. Just not as much. Laughing

All the best, Cindy! Thanks for all that you and your team did for local music.

Hugs

Frenchy Kiss

Just got word that Frenchy and the Ferals are in the studio recording. Which I find is good news cause I think their myspace stuff is pretty great. I dunno what you call it. Ethereal rock? Dreamlike pop? Mazzy Star with a beat? Whatever it is, I dig it.

Until the CD release…

Office Brilliance

OK, I must admit I’m not the biggest fan of the movie Office Space. Well, in that cult like way. I watched it, liked it and was done with it. But this ‘new trailer’ almost had me out the door to buy the latest special edition. At Tower, of course, for their clearance sale.

And I thought it was just me

Back in September, I was asked to list the best gay bar for our Best of Dallas issue. I immediately thought of the Round-Up but I refer to them too much already. Thus my choice went to Sue Ellen’s, the lesbian bar on Cedar Springs. And ever since then, they’ve been getting all this other attention. Not saying because of our issue (maybe some of it), but all of the sudden, I’m hearing about them everywhere.

They took Best Gay Bar at MSN’s Citysearch. Random. I’d figure as generic of a site that is, they’d settle for the obvious, JR’s or Station Four.

And in yesterday’s Quick, Ian and Brandon go on about Miss Sue’s in their column. I jab on the Quick a lot but I love these guys and am quite refreshed by the fact that Quick has this column every Tuesday. Thanks much, Belo guys!

So, all in all, bravo to Sue Ellen’s. Whatever yer doin’, yer doin’ it right!

PS. And they have probably one of the more awesome myspace pages for a club BTJM!

Take it to the Chorus

While Trebek and Wee Demon and Unfair Park are all squealing over St. Vincent, I find myself obsessed with this cover.

Random product recommendation

On my weekly grocery trip to Kroger’s, I found two products that may have changed my palate’s life forever. But first, I must say, if you do not take advantage of Kroger’s Ten for $Ten sales, you are missing out. Milk - one dollar?? Shoooot. That make me holla!

Now, I must say, I am a pepperoni fiend. I love it on pizza (especially those super extra pep pizzas), in salads (thank you Souper Salad) and just by itself as a snack. For a quick tasty munchy, I recommend the multigrain flatbread from Jimmy’s Food Store with pepperoni. Yummy

I usually don’t buy the pep packets though unless they are on sale or within budget. Thus they are an indulgence. The two for $6 was slightly out of what I wanted to pay this week until this piqued my interest.

Hormel’s Turkey Pepperoni? Hormel is the only brand I get other than what’s at Jimmy’s but I had never seen this kind. But it may just be that I hone in directly on the good ole regular stuff. I was curious but reluctant. For me, turkey items don’t taste bad but there is that slight difference. But it was70% less fat and didn’t look as greasy.

I figured this. Two for six? I’ll bite but only if I get a regular pep as well. And then I saw this:

Bite size? And regular?? Score! That is heaven in a bag. They taste awesome and a little more sensible to snack on than slices which will always seem better on a pizza than a cracker. And I’m stuck on the Turkey Pepperoni. That is delicious and no taste difference. The only difference which I appreciate was the lack of oil slick on my fingers and plate. I only wish pizza places offered this option.

Thank you Hormel for satisfying this pepperoni lover.

Quick as molasses

Looks like a new kid on the blog block. Or you could really just call it one more DMN has to offer to the blogosphere. I just received this bulletin from The Quick on myspace.

Subject BLAH BLAH BLAH: Quick’s NEW Blog

Body: Dear, sweet Quick reader:

We finally have a Quick blog, and it debuts today! We call it Blah Blah Blah, and its theme is pop culture. Think of it as a not-so-serious daily discussion of local and national entertainment trends. We’ll have lots of info on local bands and nightclubs, and observations on movies, TV, sports and news oddities that make us say “whaaa?” Check it out at QuickDFW.com, or go to QuickDFW.com/blog. As always, we want to know what you think. E-mail us at quicknews@quickdfw.com, or post replies on the blog itself.

Thanks for reading.
Love,
Quick

I just can’t wait for another riveting Lesley Tellez piece. Oh like this.

‘THE GOLDEN GIRLS’SEASON 6 ON DVD
The Golden Girls, much like a fine sherry, keep getting better with age. (If you haven’t spent an afternoon watching reruns, you haven’t lived.) Season Six, which is released on Amazon today, offers some gems: The time Blanche finds out her nanny was her father’s mistress, and the episode when Sophia’s accused of setting fire to the Shady Pines nursing home. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re late for an audition of The Golden Girls: Live!
Lesley Téllez

What sherry has she been drinking? The parenthetic sentence frightens me the most.

Interestingly enough, their first post was way back on November 8. Who said myspace doesn’t get the word out Quick?
