Not a lot to say today…
…feeling too dejected.
I’m expecting that to go away after tonight’s Def Comedy Jam auditions at the Improv. Crossing my fingers.

and thankfully, no more Santorum. That guy’s the devil. No, really! BTJM!

This is a repost from GRiD on myspace which you will see more of:
I think this may be my first blog under a sports category. I like sports. But they are never something I get into fanatically. Although my downstairs neighbor may disagree with my jumping and yelling during the NBA finals!
I was sent this article today by my mentor. After reading it, I was fairly annoyed. After some Googling, I read this version and got pissed.
So the manager of the White Sox is going to get a slap on the wrist and a fine of an undisclosed amount. That’s it. And why do I think if he pulled a Marge Schott, he’d be in a little more trouble? Oh I dunno. I guess ‘fag’ doesn’t have the same ring as ‘nigger’.
Plus, it has more of a history. ‘Fag’ has nothing on it. Still…come on.
This guy says that in Venezuela (where he’s from), ‘fag’ means to call into question someone’s courage. Is this guy for real? Last I checked, they spoke Spanish in Venezuela and last I checked, ‘maricon’ didn’t mean anything but ‘fag’.
So I’m a bit confused here. Oh wait, not really, it’s just the lamest defense ever.
Admittedly, I don’t know that much about baseball other than the basics. And I can’t find anything on the MLB website about conduct unbecoming. But somehow I figure there’s something to be said for behavior such as this in their credo. At least it would seem so. Assuming that is the case, is the only punishment a verbal reprimand and a fine? And an undisclosed fine at that? How do I know it’s not just fifteen bucks this guy is going to pay? Somehow I doubt that whatever the fine is, he can afford it comfortably. I mean, come on, he is the coach of the White Sox. He’s gotta be pullin’ in more than $50K, right? At least? Ugh.
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig chimes in with “On Tuesday night, Ozzie Guillen used language that is offensive and completely unacceptable. Baseball is a social institution with responsibility to set appropriate tone and example. Conduct or language that reflects otherwise will not be tolerated. The use of slurs embarrasses the individual, the club and the game.”
Gee, that makes me feel better. Now, Mr. Selig. Recommend the owners to fire his ass or you’ll fine them too. But you won’t. Nobody will take that much of a stand. And what will we (the gay community) do? Bitch and moan about it without taking a full out action. Oh, we might make a protest at future White Sox games (snore), gripe about it in the media and say he should or we should (as usual) and of course blog angrily about it (hopefully mine will be the first but we’ll never know).
What else is there to do? Well, maybe The Advocate could bring Mr. Guillen in for a ball busting interview. They might. They tried to do it with Howard Dean after his comments on the 700 Club (don’t get me started on that lame interview). Guillen says he’s going to the Gay Games in Chicago. Hmmm..hey, don’t let him in! And do it loud and proud. However, they’ll have him in as a gesture of bridging the gap between straights and gays, homophobia and acceptance, blah and blah.
I say no.
Publicly lynch the guy so people realize, no more. This is not going to happen anymore. He is a homophobe. Everyone blasted Marge for her racism and anti-semitism and that is now her legacy. No one will think about this incident in two years unless something truly drastic is done on our end.
Yes it makes me angry that such a public figure would not catch himself on such things and then try to pass it off as cultural ignorance. It makes me angry that all he’ll get is this minor castigation of a fine and a finger point and a recommendation to sensitivity training. What makes me angrier is that we as a community won’t do much else than the above. The HRC or GLAAD will blast him somehow and then say we need to educate. They haven’t even put in on their site yet and the story’s pretty old already by media standards. Thanks a lot guys.
I don’t exclude myself from this lack of action. This blog entry may be all I do about it. And not buy anymore White Sox stuff (like I have tons of it). But I just want one of us in our community to step up to the plate. At some point in all of this. There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotion. God I wish I came up with that. But it has a bit more weight knowing Jung said it.
For not thinking outside the box. I wasn’t using my civil rights anyways.
Congrats Hillary Clinton. Can I move up there?

Could ONE (D) be in the lead??? At all?
