Not so Peachy - Cancelled show news

Uh oh. Just got this note from Daughter Entertainment. From some of the buzz, I heard a lot of people were looking forward to this show at the Ridglea. I’ve yet to hear the chick but I understand she’s way out there. And fairly amazing. I’ll have to look into this. Anyway, here’s the news:

Hello all-

The Peaches show has been cancelled tonight.
To all of those people that ordered tickets
online—
You will automatically be refunded for those
tickets. We ask you to give it a few days
to show up on your statements before
calling with questions.

There will be no make-up show.

And according to Ridglea’s site:

Regarding the Peaches show tonight, Thursday, November 30th. We just
got the word from the promoter at 1:35 this afternoon that the show has
been cancelled. We were all concerned that driving conditions tonight
would be hazardous. Everyone is so sorry as we were all looking forward to
the show as well!

I did get to see their opener Quintron and Miss Pussycat earlier this year at the Gypsy Tea Room. Between those two acts, I would have betted on an awesome yet frenetic show.

CD InStore

Why can’t this be closer to home? Ahh well, I may just go check this out on Saturday. If I can fit it in with all the other goings on this weekend. I’m digging the Hourly Radio lot more than when I first heard them. Their full length ain’t bad but their EP is fairly inspired. I think anyways. And since I missed ‘em at the Wreck Room with Black Tie, I just may check ‘em out here in a stripped down version. Hot!

Stitch MC is along for the ride too although I’ve never heard of ‘em. But here’s the official word from the HR.

THE HOURLY RADIO will be playing a FREE in-store, stipped down/acoustic-ish set this Saturday at CD WORLD in Addison.

Also performing will be STITCH! mc

CD WORLD - Addison
5000 Belt Line Rd # 310
Dallas, TX 75254

See you there!

NEXT OFFICIAL DALLAS SHOW
DEC 16th @ GYPSY TEA ROOM

I THINK this goes to my favorite song of theiirs though. If not, just hit their myspace page and find Closer.

If you brave the weather tonight

Might I suggest the Tipperary Inn?

or, of course, Club Dada?

Deep Ellum Film Fest…oops, I mean AFI

You may or may not know the Deep Ellum Film Festival earlier this year became the AFI International Film Festival which carries so much more weight with those film fest fanatic out of towners. But not too keen are the other fests. Anyway, you can read all that here thanks to Robert Wilonsky.

Now if you’re looking to get in on the action, four employment ads for the festival were posted Wednesday, November 29 on CraigsList. They are getting organized early on to make sure it runs without a hitch. Which I imagine it will. And if not, then Wilo will be all over it.

Check ‘em out:

Registration Coordinator - AFI DALLAS International Film Festival

On-Site Producer - AFI DALLAS International Film Festival

Box Office Operators - AFI DALLAS International Film Festival

Box Office Manager - AFI DALLAS International Film Festival

Polish off that resume and do Dallas proud in their first AFI Film Fest. And think of some new top 100 lists willya?

Great, now I know how I’m going to die

Rich: At age 67 a group of children will text message you continuously for three years, eventually distracting you while driving and causing a fatal wreck; your fatal wreck.

Thank you Chris and Amazing Death Predictor. Thanks…a lot.

In the meantime, check out some of Chris’ pics here. He’s a local photographer and has some purty good stuff. Kaya, his dog, is just as cute as my Bene!

I’ve been won over

Normally I can’t stand celebrity fan blogs because I can’t imagine spending so much time focusing on tidbits and gossip about peeps I don’t even know…or that EVERYONE else is going to cover. {cough - get a life!}

But my mind has changed on one of ‘em. Don’t know what it is but this one keeps me laughing AND informed. Well, informed in the US Weekly sort of way.

Please welcome MollyGood to the Hot Blog! Stand.

Those Galveston Gays

This is a fairly interesting piece from a little beyond our backyard. The Galveston Daily News published a story about a gay couple only to be met with ignorant dismay by offended readers (shocker) that was met with this incredible response. Here’s a sample:

I am sorry many readers were offended. I understand that, in the eyes of many, we may have overdone the story, and maybe that is so.

However, I am not sorry we published the story.

But I am sick at heart and shaken over the malice I’ve experienced this week, wave on wave, pure and hard as diamonds.

Normally, we live in a peaceful corner of the world, and it’s rare here to see hate wearing no mask. But that is the way I will remember this Thanksgiving.

And then I was appropriately entertained by Queerty’s response.

Thank you Galveston Daily News and editor Dolph Tillotson. Yer now on the hero list.

Match Game

Last night I was pleasantly surprised with my late night tv watching. Every so often, I’ll flip channels as I try to fall asleep but whenever Blind Date is on, I’m riveted to the screen. That may be one of my more guiltiest pleasures but oh so justifiable. Who can resist peering into the awkwardness of other’s dating while we remain safely in our home? Single. Alone. Wait. Hmmmm…epiphany….sigh.

Kudos though to Blind Date because they did their first ever same sex date with two gents, Scott and Omid. Just go to the Episode Summaries for their date info. I felt bad for Scott because he was quite reserved and seemed to approach the date shyly but appropriately. Omid was way too open and sort of lashed out onto Scott about his past and everything. It was a bit disappointing that it didn’t work out only just cause this was BD’s first try at this but from the get-go, they were not a match.

Omid has a skewered view of relationships and said in the intro he wants someone nice and rich. Ummm….shallow? Just a bit. Scott seems to be fairly grounded but there’s a wall around this guy who seems like he could be a really great guy. I’m sure they both are to some extent but that’s neither here nor there. Just a big thanks to Roger Lodge and the show for doing this. But what took ya so long?!

And so you don’t leave without a new dating tip, Blind Date offers this article about the ten new places to meet someone. Good luck!

You’re Gonna Love Her

What’s that noise? It’s probably all the Oscar buzz surrounding Jennifer Hudson’s performance in the film Dreamgirls. The movie comes out Christmas and already she’s been touted as giving a breakthrough performance along with anticipation for an Academy Award nomination.

Hudson is appearing tonight at NorthPark Center for an autograph session and special screening of the film. Thankfully no perfume to pawn or clothing line to hawk, just a good ole fashioned celebrity appearance. She’ll sign from 4:30 to 5:30 between Macy’s and Nordstrom with the screening to follow at 6. But get there early. The first 250 people in line will get free tickets to the show!

And if you get a chance, ask her about her rumored feud with Beyonce. Word is swirling around that Miss Bootylicious ain’t too happy about all the attention surrounding the former American Idol contestant.
